New Hope Baptist Church Covenant
Having been led, as we believe by the Spirit of God, to receive the Lord Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord, and on the public profession of our faith, demonstrated by obedience in baptism in the Name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we do now, relying on His gracious aid, in the presence of God and this assembly, solemnly and joyfully enter into covenant with one another as one body in Christ.
We will, by the help of the Spirit of God, walk together in Christian love; strive for the advancement of this church in knowledge and holiness; exercise affectionate care and watchfulness over each other; rand faithfully admonish and entreat one another as occasion may require. We will submit to and honor the leaders of the church as unto the Lord, and we will not be divisive over personal issues of conscience or any other non-essential doctrinal disagreements.
We will not forsake the assembling of ourselves together, but will be active in attendance and fellowship. We will not neglect to pray for one another. Furthermore, we endeavor to aid one another in sickness and distress, to rejoice at each other’s happiness and bear each other’s burdens and sorrows with tenderness and sympathy.
We endeavor to live carefully in the world, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts; to be honest in our dealings, faithful in our engagements, and exemplary in our behavior. We will be slow to take offense, but always ready for reconciliation. We will avoid all gossiping, backbiting and excessive anger in our efforts to advance the kingdom of our Savior.
We will seek to maintain private and family devotions; to bring our children up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord; and seek the salvation of our family, friends and acquaintances.
We will work together for the continuance of a faithful evangelical ministry in this church, as we sustain its worship, ordinances, discipline, and doctrines. We will contribute cheerfully and regularly to the support of the ministry, the expenses of the church, the relief of the poor, and the spread of the Gospel through all nations.
We will, when we move from this place, as soon as possible unite with some other Biblical Church where we can carry out the spirit of this covenant and the principles of God’s Word.
May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all. Amen.
